A terrible drought was threatening to wipe out Stands-by-Herself's Cheyenne people. One day, all alone on the Great Plains, she came upon a strange egg-shaped rock, and took it home. "That looks like a thunder egg!" her grandmother said. Laid by the great Thunderbird's wife, could Stands-by-Herself's mysterious rock hold the key to her people's survival? The Thunder Egg is the story of a girl's coming of age, when she realizes that life can require us to think of others before ourselves and to follow what our hearts tell us.
