Jessica Mackay has one dream – to be a pilot. She lives in Narromine NSW, an ideal place to achieve her ambition in 1930s Australia, but it will take determination and hard work. Jennifer Bradley’s story of a young girl’s passion for flying is based firmly on actual events in the fledgling Australian aviation industry.

Jessicas father developed a passion for flying in Egypt during World War I, and even though women were among the first people to take on the challenge of the skies, Jessica’s ambitions are not supported by everyone, most notably her grandfather who has firm ideas about ‘a woman’s place’ in the world. Jennifer Bradley’s story of a young girl’s passion for flying is based firmly on actual events in the fledgling Australian aviation industry.

Author Bio

Jennifer Bradley grew up in Narromine and was fascinated by the photos of 1930s air shows from the filing cabinets at the local aerodrome. After taking early retirement from the public service, where she had developed policy and written what she described as creative non fiction for various governments, she decided to try and tell a story of the aviation pioneers in 1920s and 1930s Australia.
